Contains 1840 census material from Missouri and North Carolina. Each entry includes name of head of household, number of free white persons, number of free Afro-Americans, and number of slaves. Each racial group is broken down further by gender and age range. Entries also list number in each household employed in various job categories, number suffering from various handicaps, number attending school, and names and ages of any Revolutionary War pensioners.
